\"RoguePne\"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story<\/strong> landed a most impressive $155 million opening in North America this weekend and also brought in $290.5 million globally, making it the top movie around the world.<\/p>\n

Rogue One\u00a0top-lined the fourth largest December three-day weekend ever, delivering the third largest opening of 2016, the twelfth largest opening of all-time and became and became the second best opener in the month of December only\u00a0behind last year’s monster opening for Star Wars: The Force Awakens<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The opening weekend for “Rogue One” exceeded Disney’s expectations. The studio projected that the film would debut in the range of $120 million to $150 million.\u00a0And that number is without the world’s second largest movie market, China. The film opens there on January 6.<\/p>\n

The film received an “A”\u00a0CinemaScore\u00a0across all demographics as it played to crowds that \u00a0were 59% male and 41% female, while 26% were between the age of 26 and 34, according to data shared by the studio.<\/p>\n

Rogue One encountered many obstacles even before its galactic journey began: \u00a0reports of extensive reshoots as the studio and the film\u2019s director Garth Edwards and screenwriter\u00a0Tony Gilroy\u00a0labored to find the right tone and to hammer out a more satisfying ending, \u00a0a standalone, experimental project that\u00a0was never expected to play to\u00a0Force Awakens<\/em>-style numbers.\u00a0The pent-up demand for\u00a0The Force Awakens<\/em>\u00a0was built over a decade and caused a tremor in fans young and old, as well as the uninitiated<\/p>\n

However, regardless of the obstacles\u00a0in bringing \u201cRogue One\u201d to screens, audiences seem to have responded enthusiastically to the finished product, turning out in droves.<\/p>\n

Rogue One<\/em>\u00a0is playing like a \u2018normal\u2019 blockbuster \u2014 albeit one with a rarefied pedigree. The lucrative holiday period is just kicking in and the film is expected to stretch out, benefiting from the strong critical and audience response.<\/p>\n
