The 13-year gap between 2003\u2019s\u00a0Finding Nemo<\/em>\u00a0and its 2016 sequel didn\u2019t seem to be a problem for the Disney’s Pixar juggernaut.<\/p>\n

Once again, Disney finds itself atop the weekend box office for the eleventh time this year.\u00a0Disney\u2019s\u00a0Finding Dory<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0made\u00a0huge box office waves this weekend, setting a\u00a0new opening weekend record by an animated motion picture bringing in $136.2 Million<\/strong>\u00a0from 4,305 theaters for a $31,634 per theater average. It’s an opening comparable to the\u00a090+% bumps both sequels in the\u00a0Toy Story<\/b>\u00a0franchise\u00a0saw over their predecessors with\u00a0Dory<\/b>‘s opening weekend serving as a 93.8% bump over\u00a0Finding Nemo<\/b>‘s $70.2 million opening back in 2003.<\/p>\n

The release is another 2016 animated hit for the studio on the heels of\u00a0Zootopia<\/b>, as\u00a0Dory\u00a0exceeded\u00a0<\/b>expectations pulling\u00a0in over $54 million on Friday, including $9.2\u00a0million from\u00a0Thursday night previews\u00a0(also a record for an animated feature),\u00a0Finding Dory<\/em>\u00a0handily\u00a0bested the previous animated weekend record holder, 2007\u2019s\u00a0Shrek the Third<\/em>, by around\u00a0$15 million (unadjusted for inflation).<\/p>\n

Dory<\/b>\u00a0also scored an “A”\u00a0CinemaScore\u00a0and played to an audience that was 45% male vs. 55% female. The age breakdown saw 65% of the audience being made up by families and 32% of the overall audience made up of children 12 and under.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Nemo<\/em>\u00a0brand has ballooned over the years, the film has spawned video games, merchandise, and theme park attractions around the world, making it a time-tested, modern icon among Disney\u2019s filmography.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
