{"id":121,"date":"2010-09-13T12:43:46","date_gmt":"2010-09-13T16:43:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.archimediastudios.com\/corporate\/?p=121"},"modified":"2010-09-15T17:53:21","modified_gmt":"2010-09-15T21:53:21","slug":"breaking-the-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.archimediastudios.com\/corporate\/2010\/09\/breaking-the-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"Breaking the Rules&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are lots of \u201cdesign rules\u201d out there that you\u2019re supposed to follow.<\/p>\n<p>These rules are there for good reason \u2013 following them increases the likelihood that you\u2019ll create a usable and effective interaction experience for users.<\/p>\n<p>But is it ever OK to break the rules?<\/p>\n<p>Of course it is. \u201cDesign Rules\u201d aren\u2019t rules at all \u2013 they\u2019re simply<strong> guidelines<\/strong> you should use to help create an optimal solution.<\/p>\n<p>Breaking well established design conventions doesn\u2019t always mean you\u2019re making a \u201cmistake\u201d or that you\u2019re going to produce a poor user experience.<\/p>\n<p>Quite the opposite \u2013 breaking the rules enables you to be more creative, original, and innovative which can potentially result in new and novel interaction experiences.<\/p>\n<p>The key is not to break the rules just for the sake of creating something \u201cdifferent\u201d.
